GAEP is launching an open call for professional support for emerging artists, accessible for applications until the 29th of August.  Through the Shortcuts Project, Gaep sustains the emerging artist’s promotion initiatives with mentoring sessions, whose purpose is to facilitate their contact with the cultural managers and the organizations in the creative industry. Following the call for applications, 10 artists carefully selected by the invited jury will benefit from an intensive program, meant to familiarize then with the post-production infrastructure. In this way, the artists will have the opportunity to collaborate with 4 mentors for the conception of their future projects: Răzvan Anton (artist), Andrei Breahnă (cultural manager), Ioana Chira (communicator) și Lea Rasovszky (artist).

The artists invited to participate within this project need to be older than 21 and to have a professional experience which may make them stand out in one of the following contexts :  personal and / or group exhibitions, artist residencies or art fairs.

“In the context of the Shortcuts project, by “emerging artists” we mean artists that have under 10 years of professional experience. (…) We opted for the term “emerging” instead of “young” because we also accept application from those who have made a career switch of have decided to prioritize their artistic activity from the past years, no matter the age ”, relates Ioana Chira ( PR GAEP) in an interview for artevezi.

The Jury is composed of specialists originated from activity fields related to art:

“We started by defining the jury’s component under the following form: a consecrated artist, a curator, an organization manager in the domain of contemporary art, followed by the project manager. Therefore, the members are Marilena Preda Sânc, Georgia Țidorescu, Alex Radu, followed by Andrei Breahnă. We wanted the jury members to have complementary professional perspectives and experiences.” (Ioana Chira, PR GAEP)

At the end of the Shortcuts’ program, the artists will acquire the capacity to finalize and manage projects; as well as relation-making and negotiating with the specialists in the field:

Shortcuts is a continuous education initiative. At this point, what we wish for is that, by the end of it, the participants may gain self-esteem and the capacity to follow their professional route on the scene of contemporary art, as well as detain the knowledge and abilities necessary in organizing a personal exhibition project. For this reason, this project’s main activities are intensive workshops and one-to-one mentoring sessions, which allow an applied dialog. In addition to these, Shortcuts will include meetings with other artists, curators and cultural managers from Bucharest, in order for the participants to supplementary occasions for networking.” ( Ioana Chira, PR.
